Mission Statement: Detroit
Baptist Theological Seminary Library exists to glorify God and to serve the
Seminary by making available an excellent, comprehensive, current and balanced
collection of quality academic resources, commensurate with the Seminary's philosophy,
in order to produce and develop incisive students and teachers of God's Word.
Description: Located on the ground floor of the seminary building, the library provides abundant resources to fulfill the expectations for all course work required at the seminary. The core collection, comprised almost entirely of works relating to biblical interpretation and exegesis, theology, church history, and practical theology, has been carefully built to reflect the mission and emphases of the seminary. The collection's main holdings consist of more than 40,000 monographs, reference works, scholarly dissertations, and bound volumes of periodicals. The library currently has paid subscriptions to about 270 print periodicals (including more than 170 indexed religious journals) and about 100 electronic journals, all of which keep students abreast of current biblical, theological, historical, and practical research.
Large collections at the nearby Wayne
State University and the University
of Michigan also contribute to the resources available to students, and
the seminary's interlibrary loan cooperatives allow the library to secure millions
of resources from around the world.
