Bruce Compton, Th.D.
Professor of Biblical Languages and Exposition
Dr. Compton has taught at Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary since 1984. He is currently professor of Biblical Languages and Exposition. He received his A.B. degree in political science from UCLA, the M.Div. and Th.M. degrees from Denver Baptist Theological Seminary, and the Th.D. degree in Greek and New Testament with a minor in Hebrew and Old Testament from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, IN. Prior to coming to DBTS, Dr. Compton was assistant professor of Biblical Languages at Denver Baptist Theological Seminary from 1977 to 1984.
Dr. Compton is a member of the Evangelical Theological Society and has served as adjunct faculty at Central Baptist Theological Seminary in Plymouth, MN; Maranatha Baptist Bible College Graduate School in Watertown, WI; and Grace Baptist Theological Seminary in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. He traveled to Israel as part of a DBTS study tour of the Holy Lands in the summer of 2000. Dr. Compton was ordained by Inter-City Baptist Church in Allen Park, MI, and has served as an interim pastor/speaker in several churches in the southeast Michigan area. He was on active duty with the United States Air Force as a pilot from 1968 to 1974. From 1987 to his retirement in 2002, he served in the Air National Guard as a military chaplain.
Dr. Compton resides in Allen Park with his wife Mari, a former high school English teacher. They have two sons who are married.
